The subject of the invention is a rear-view device for a vehicle (1), comprising at least one camera (2) having a field of view (Xo) covering a defined area of the surroundings of the vehicle (1) and centred on an optical axis (20, Fz), and an electronic display system (3) for display on a video screen (4) of an image (I) of said area of the surroundings recorded by the camera (2). According to the invention, the camera (2) is stationary with a defined orientation of its optical axis (20, Fz) and the electronic display system (3) includes image processing means (31) capable, on the basis of an overall image (Io) recorded by said camera (2), of displaying on the video screen (4) a simulated image (h) matched to the driving conditions at a given instant, said simulated image (h) being centred on a virtual optical axis (Fzi), the orientation of which may be adjusted relative to that of the optical axis (Fz) of the camera (2). |
