The battery (10) has load switches (18) provided between electrical cells (C1-C3) and a load. The switches are switched in a closed condition in which electric current flows to the switches, and in an open condition in which the current does not flow to the switches. The switches exhibit a normal configuration in which the switches are connected in series to the cells and a compensating configuration in which the switches are connected parallel to the cells. A compensating circuit is connected parallel to the cells when the switches are provided in the compensating configuration. An independent claim is also included for a method for simultaneously discharging electrical cells.
