The present invention relates to a method for preparing dimethyl ether by the catalytic dehydration of methanol, that comprises using a catalyst cont aining a zeolithe immobilised on a silicon carbide substrate, e.g. a zeolith e of the ZSM-5 type on silicon carbide extrudates or on a silicon carbide ce llular foam.
