A method and an apparatus for controlling a motor in a sewing machine are provided to sew with a stable state by pressurizing a falling point area of a needle, and to minimize the noise generation through controlling based on a disturbance observer. A resonance ratio control is applied to the first resonance mode. A phase progress compensation is applied to the second resonance mode and the beyond. A nominal value of the motor inertia used as a disturbance observer in the resonance ratio becomes larger than the value of the motor inertia by the phase progress compensation. The sewing machine is formed of the XY direction automatic transfer sewing machine. The motor is equipped to drive the main XY spindle of the XY direction automatic transfer sewing machine. The phase progress compensation is performed by using the disturbance observer, by using no torsion reaction estimation observer in regard to the load having high rigidity of neglecting the torsion reaction. The resonance ratio control member is constructed by the disturbance observer and the torsion reaction estimation observer.
