A flux for overlay welding of electroslag is provided to prevent degradation of slag releasability resulting from increment of SiO2 by setting content of CaF2, MgF2, and/or AlF3, and MgO at a proper level. A flux for overlay welding of electroslag uses a strip electrode. The flux contains 35 to 50% of CaF2, 15 to 20 of SiO2, 10 to 20 of Al2O3, less than 10% of CaO, 5 to 10% of a sum of MgF2 and AlF3, and 5 to 15% of MgO. The sum of Cr of Cr-Fe compound and a metal Cr is 0.1 to 12 mass%. 0.1 to 7 mass% Metal Ni is contained.
