An apparatus and a method for authenticating a telematics terminal in a mobile vehicle are provided to secure information stored in the mobile vehicle by recognizing the user of the telematics terminal in the mobile vehicle rapidly and precisely. An apparatus for authenticating a telematics terminal in a mobile vehicle includes a reading unit(12) and a controller(13). The reading unit receives user authentication information of the telematics terminal in the mobile vehicle through wireless communication. The controller executes user authentication based on the received user authentication information and the previously stored user authentication information. The reading unit receives the user authentication information from a radio frequency identification tag(22).
