[Class 94 (i).] A protecting device for the ends of pipes comprises a sleeve a of hessian &c. filled with woodwool, wood - fibre, shavings, &c. and provided with a draw-string d by means of which the open end is drawn together to form a protective overlap b<1>. The inner end may be secured to the pipe by a metal band f. The wood-wool &c. may be packed in a paper container e and introduced as a unit into the sleeve, which is thereupon sewn up at a<1>. The unit is made by spreading the wood-wool &c. over one half of a long length of paper which is gummed or heated along one edge, the halves are folded together, and the strip cut into lengths suitable for insertion into the sleeve.</p> |
