A device and a method for testing compatibility between a manufactured HDD(Hard Disk Drive) and a main board, and a thermal characteristic test of the HDD are provided to perform a compatibility test for testing the compatibility between the HDD and various kinds of main boards quickly/precisely, and simultaneously perform a thermal characteristic test determining whether the HDD is normally operated in very high and low temperature states. A host PC(1) transfers OS(Operating System) data for testing compatibility and thermal characteristic tests to port PCs(P1-PN) while turning on/off and controlling booting of the port PCs respectively connected with a plurality of PATA(Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment)/SATA(Serial Advanced Technology Attachment) HDDs(5), and determines a thermal characteristic by using depending on installation of the OS data and a data storage rate according to a thermal environment. A driver(2) turns on/off and boots up the port PCs by control of the host PC. Each port PC is mounted with a plurality of main boards(10,11) for a compatibility test, and provides a status for installing the OS data in the HDD and a rate for storing the data in the HDD to the host PC during the test.
