An external light blocking sheet and a plasma display device having the same are provided to increase a dark/bright contrast by arranging the external light blocking sheet in front of a display panel. An external light blocking sheet includes a base portion(200) and a pattern portion(210). The pattern portion is made of darker material at the base portion. A lower end of the pattern portion is arranged on a panel side, while an upper end thereof is arranged at an observer side. An external light source is arranged on the panel. An external beam is obliquely incident on the panel and absorbed by the pattern portion. The pattern portion contains light absorbing particles, which are colored resin particles. A size of the light absorbing particle is greater than 1 mum. The pattern portion contains the light absorbing particle at a concentration higher than 10 2%.
