Process for covering of a hollow profile with a metal film

A plastic profile(5) is extruded(2) and an aluminum foil(6) is applied to the extruded profile only after all extrusion stages have been completed. The metal foil(6) may be preformed(8) and applied to the profile(5) either directly after conclusion of extrusion or after a subsequent manufacturing stage, the foil being rolled(13) again during application onto the profile. Metal foil may be supplied as a pre-coated material or adhesive is applied(9) to the contacting surfaces of the metal foil and/or the hollow profile and the foil is pressed onto the profile with rolls(11). Adhesive may be applied to foil prior to or after preforming. Different forms of adhesive used include sprayable adhesive, varnish, adhesive film and/or primer. Foils are heated(12) before applying onto the profile, the degree of heating being sufficient to activate the adhesive. Foil covered profiles are cut to length and/or subjected to further finishing operations. An independent claim is included for a cable channel made from extruded plastic using the claimed process and has a metal foil , preferably an aluminum foil, on at least the outer surface.
