The airway device comprises an airway tube and a non-iflatable laryngeal cuff that is pre-formed such that the face region is a snug fit over the laryngeal inlet of a patient. A first method of manufacturing the device comprises the steps of providing and airway tube and a mould shaped to form the laryngeal cuff, inserting the airway tube into a mould, introducing plastic into the mould and allowing the plastic to solidify before removing the airway device from the mould. The plastic may be introduced into the mould in two steps; a first plastic of one hardness is introduced followed by a plastic of a second hardness to produce a device with regions of different hardness. Another method for forming the airway device comprises the steps of providing a mould, introducing plastic into the mould and allowing it to solidify to form the laryngeal cuff and then providing an airway tube that is attached to the laryngeal cuff. The laryngeal cuff may be formed in a two step process. |
