<p>A backlight apparatus, a method for controlling the same, and an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) are provided to emit light from an overall area of a lighting region with the same whiteness while lowering the power consumption. A backlight apparatus controls a backlight(12) for varying the luminance of each of a plurality of divisional regions, which are formed by dividing a lighting region. Red, green, and blue light emitting elements(51R,51G,51B) and a switching element(53) are formed in each of the divisional regions. The light emitting elements emit red, green, and blue lights respectively. The switching element switches on or off the light emitting elements. A luminance control unit(61) controls the luminance of each of the divisional regions by varying a pulse width of a pulse signal supplied to the switching element in each of the divisional regions. A current value storage unit stores current values of currents, which are supplied to the red, green and blue light emitting elements, for each of the plurality of divisional regions. The current values are determined such that the whiteness and the luminance of light from the red, green and blue light emitting elements are a predetermined value. A current control unit(74) controls the current values of the currents supplied to the red, green and blue light emitting elements in each of the plurality of divisional regions so that the controlled current values are equal to the current values stored in the current value storage unit.</p> |
