The invention relates to continuous-strand pellets consisting of particles in which reinforcing staple fibres are arranged in a thermoplastic matrix in a helical manner. Said pellets are characterized in that the reinforcing staple fibres together with molten matrix material are situated in a peripheral area of the particles and together with unmolten thermoplastic staple fibres are present in a core area. The invention also relates to a method for producing continuous-strand pellets from a staple-fibre mixture consisting of thermoplastic fibres and reinforcing fibres. According to said method a ribbon consisting of the staple fibre mixture is fed through a preheating zone and drawn through a heating nozzle to form a strand which after twisting and consolidation by cooling is cut into continuous-strand pellets. The invention is characterized in that the strand is first cooled and then rotated and taken off and finally freely rotated without interference by the cutting process.
