A soft handover apparatus of a terrestrial DMB receiver and a method thereof are provided to minimize power consumption of the DMB receiver by operating an auxiliary tuner and a block for processing an ensemble signal only when handover is required. The first tuner(110) selects a channel, demodulates a received DMB signal, and outputs the same. The second tuner(120) selects a different channel of the same service as that of the channel selected by the first tuner, demodulates a received DMB signal, and outputs the same. A reception signal monitoring unit(130) detects reception signals outputted via the first and second tuners and measure quality of the reception signals. A controller(170) controls the second tuner to select the different channel providing the same service as that of the channel selected by the first tuner. In this case, if quality of the reception signal of the second tuner measured by the reception signal monitoring unit is better than that of the reception signal of the first tuner, the controller controls to output the DMB signal received via the second tuner to a display screen(155) and a speaker(165). |
