A method and a device for inputting a key in a portable terminal having a plurality of display parts are provided to offer an external key input part for a double-sided portable terminal having a large display part and a small display part so that the user can easily execute key input regardless of the used surface of the display part. A portable terminal(100) having a plurality of display parts comprises an external case(200), an external key input part(227), and a control part. The external case is attached to the portable terminal. The external key input part is connected to the external case. The control part judges whether the external case is connected to the external key input part. If it is detected that the external case is connected to the external key input part, the control part executes a control operation so that key input can be performed through the external key input part. The control part performs a control operation so that a result based on the input of a key inputted from the external key input part can be outputted through a preset one among the plural display parts.
