A plasma display apparatus and a driving method thereof are provided to reduce discharge delay using priming particles by increasing the number of sub-fields which use a main reset during one frame, according to the elapse of an accumulation driving time. A driving time of a plasma display apparatus is calculated by accumulation of the time(S310). The calculated accumulation driving time and a predetermined first reference time are compared(S320). The number of sub-fields to which a main reset waveform is applied for initializing whole discharge cells in a first frame having the accumulation driving time longer than the first reference time is larger than the number of sub-fields to which the main reset waveform is applied in a second frame having the accumulation driving time shorter than the first reference time(S330).
