A lamp body for a surface light source, and a method and an apparatus for manufacturing the surface light source are provided to suppress brightness non-uniformity by preventing an undesired migration of materials between discharge channels. A lamp body includes plural discharge channels(220), which are light emitting regions, and a barrier rib portion(230), which is a non-light emitting region, between discharge channels. A coupling member(240) is formed on the barrier rib portion between the discharge channels. The coupling member couples adjacent channels with each other. A portion of the coupling member is locally fused on the adjacent channel. A pressure pattern(242) is formed on a surface of the coupling member due to a pressure fusing process. The lamp body includes first and second substrates(212,214), on which plural discharge channels are formed.
