An apparatus and a method for locating a sound outputted from a headphone in an out-of-head of a listener are provided to locate a sound in a front part of a listener by processing left and right signal components of an input signal with a different delay value and a different gain value. An apparatus for locating a sound outputted from a headphone in an out-of-head of a listener includes a front recognition unit(100), and a spatial recognition unit(110). The front recognition unit locates an input signal in a predetermined region located on a front part of the listener. The spatial recognition unit processes a left signal component of the input signal and a right signal component of the input signal with a different delay value and a different gain value. The front recognition unit has a first sound location unit, and a second sound location unit. The first sound location unit locates the left signal component in the first region corresponding to a left region of the predetermined region. The second sound location unit locates the right signal component in the second region corresponding to the right region of the predetermined region.
