METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CONTROLLING BACKLIGHT OF PORTABLE DISPLAY APPARATUS

A backlight control method of a portable display device and a device thereof are provided to drive necessary power only by controlling power according to a state when the portable display device is contacted with or near to a human body, thereby offering long-term usage time. An interface unit senses an environment where a portable display device is mounted(301). A controller decides whether the sensed information is inputted(303). If so, the controller calculates a power control coefficient which controls power supplied to a backlight based on the inputted information(305). A power controller controls power according to the calculated coefficient(307). A backlight controller controls brightness of the backlight(309). A display unit displays data inputted with the controlled brightness of the backlight(311).
