A method for controlling a buffer in an optical disc driver is provided to obtain required information from the information stored on the buffer by preserving file system information in a region of buffer if the file system needs to be accessed frequently. A method for controlling a buffer in an optical disc driver comprises a first step(S1) of reading out information, which needs to be accessed frequently, from an optical disc and storing in a specific region of a buffer according to the attribute of information; a second step(S2,S3) of storing required data on the buffer from the optical disc to be moved to a position confirmed according to the attribute of information stored on the first step; a third step(S4) of detecting the position of required data by using the information stored in the specific region of the buffer; and a fourth step(S5) of storing data read from the position confirmed in the third step in the buffer.
