An impact energy absorbing apparatus of a steering column is provided to absorb the impact energy by installing a support housing, which has a lower bracket fasten therewith, on an impact energy absorbing plate. A impact energy absorbing apparatus of a steering column(300) comprises a column housing(310) enclosing a steering shaft(104), a lower bracket(320) coupled to a vehicle body, a support housing(340) coupled to an end portion of the column housing, and an impact energy absorbing plate(350). The lower bracket is used to fix the steering column to the vehicle body and coupled to the support housing via a hinge bolt(330). The support housing is coupled by the column housing and a fixed bolt(312) and is formed with a long hole(342) into which the hinge bolt is inserted and penetrated. The impact energy absorbing plate is made of a cold rolled steel plate and deformed according to the axial movement of the support housing to absorb the impact energy.
