APPARATUS FOR OPERATING SLEEP MODE IN MULTI-HOP NETWORK AND METHOD THEREOF

An apparatus and a method for operating a sleep mode in a multi-hop network are provided to solve a problem that a mobile terminal repeats alternately a sleeping interval with a listening interval wherein in the sleeping interval the mobile terminal does not monitor a channel but in the listening interval the mobile monitors a wireless channel. A method for operating a sleep mode in a multi-hop network comprises the following several steps. A mobile terminal generates a sleep mode request message and transmits the generated sleep mode request message to a repeater(S210). The repeater receives the sleep mode request message and transmits the received sleep mode request message to a base station(S220). The base station receives the sleep mode request message, generates a sleep mode response message in response to the request message, and transmits the generated sleep mode response message to the repeater(S230). The repeater receives the sleep mode response message and transmits the sleep mode response message to the mobile terminal(S240). The mobile terminal receives the sleep mode response message and operates a sleep mode on the basis of the received sleep mode response message. The base station receives a data traffic whose destination is the mobile terminal(S260). The base station stores the received data traffic at a memory and transmits the received data traffic to the repeater(S270). The base station generates a traffic instruction message and transmits the generated traffic instruction message to the repeater(S280). The repeater receives the traffic instruction message and transmits the received traffic instruction message to the mobile terminal(S290). If the mobile terminal receives the traffic instruction message, the mobile terminal switches the sleep mode to an activation mode.
