The method involves determining a liquid additive volume to be injected, and controlling an actuator (30) to displace a piston (24) of a metering pump (10) in direction of a deployed position to aspirate the volume in a dosage chamber. The actuator is controlled to displace the piston in direction of a rest position to inject the volume from the chamber into a fuel reservoir. Temperature of the additive liquid is determined, and the actuator is controlled according to measured temperature.
