The method involves supplying a brushless type reversible electric motor (6) with electric current, and adjusting the current or rotation speed of the motor in a screwing direction for obtaining a setpoint of current or screwing speed in a screwing phase. The current or speed is controlled to obtain a setpoint of current or locking speed in a locking phase. The screwing is terminated if the motor current greater than a current threshold is detected before the end of a time lag or if the speed of the motor is detected lower than a locking speed threshold, and the supply of the motor is cut. An independent claim is also included for an adapter comprising a screwing ring.
