PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing a photosensitive layer where, when a photosensitive layer is removed from an electrophotographic photosensitive body, the removal is efficiently performed in a short time without giving damage to an electrically conductive substrate and without using a large quantity of solvent. SOLUTION: The method for removing a photosensitive layer comprises: a solvent feeding stage where a photosensitive body is mounted on a photosensitive layer removing device including a solvent feeding means, a photosensitive layer removing drum, a scraping drum and a cleaning blade, and a solvent is fed from the solvent feeding means to the photosensitive layer; a photosensitive layer removing stage where the photosensitive layer removing drum is proximately arranged at the photosensitive body, while the photosensitive layer is transferred to the photosensitive layer removing drum, so as to be removed, and as the removal of the photosensitive layer is progressed, the spacing between the photosensitive body and the photosensitive layer removing drum is narrowed; and a separating stage where the photosensitive body and the photosensitive layer removing drum are separated after the removal of the photosensitive layer.
