PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent correction toner images for corresponding colors from being superposed and undetected. SOLUTION: First correction toner images TM1<SB>Y</SB>and TM1<SB>C</SB>for yellow and cyan formed by exposure with light reflected by one of the reflecting faces of a polygon mirror 20, and first correction toner images TM1<SB>M</SB>and TM1<SB>K</SB>for magenta and black formed by exposure with light reflected by another reflecting face of the polygon mirror 20 are arranged so as not overlap each other even when they are parallel moved in a main scanning direction. Consequently, the first correction toner image TM1<SB>C</SB>for cyan and the first correction toner image TM1<SB>K</SB>for black from are prevented from being moved in the main scanning direction and being superposed and detected inaccurately. In addition, the second correction toner images TM2<SB>Y</SB>and TM2<SB>C</SB>are arranged so as to sandwich the first correction toner images TM1<SB>Y</SB>and TM1<SB>C</SB>in the lengthwise direction.
