PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a finned tube type heat exchanger and its repair method suppressing the wear of heat transfer tubes due to steel balls without interfering with the flow of gas, in the heat exchanger formed to remove soot sticking to the surface of the heat transfer tubes by a steel ball shot-cleaning method. SOLUTION: The finned tube heat exchanger comprises a heat transfer tube group 2 with finned tubes 10 arranged in a casing 1 where gas containing soot flows, and a steel ball disperser 3 for dispersing steel balls 9 from above the heat transfer tube group 2. Bar-like or tubular protectors 22 are disposed between the heat transfer tube group 2 and the steel ball disperser 3, and fins 24 are provided at constant spaces around the protector 22.
