PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple abnormality detecting method and a system for wheels or bearings of a railroad vehicle, capable of precisely detecting a state of a detection part even about a vehicle having an on-vehicle power source, by a wire-less method which does not require wiring. SOLUTION: In the abnormality detecting method of the railroad vehicle, an electricity storage device is charged by a generating portion 9 provided on the abnormality detecting device normally mounted on a train. When the abnormality of wheel sets of the train occurs, the abnormality is reported to a driver's stand 4 of a vehicle or a relay station of the vehicle for a short time in pulse by radio. When the driver's stand 4 of the vehicle or the relay station of the vehicle receives the abnormality report, an electric light 7 and a personal computer with an infrared ray communicating function are brought to the abnormality detecting device. The electric light 7 is irradiated to generate a generating portion 9, and a state display LED is lit up by the electric power. Therefore, an abnormal part is distinguished. While electric power is generated by the electric light, the data of abnormality contents are transmitted from the abnormality detecting device 5 to the personal computer 8 with the infrared ray communicating function by infrared ray communication, thereby collecting the abnormality information of a wheel set abnormal portion.
