PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rack and pinion type steering device reduced in friction between members and improved in steering feeling. SOLUTION: This rack and pinion type steering device has a rack shaft having a rack gear tooth part engaged with a pinion shaft, a housing, a rack retainer main body part provided in a rack retainer housing part, a shaft supported by the rack retainer main body part, a rolling bearing housed in the rack retainer body part and turnably supported by the shaft and supporting the rack shaft on a side opposite to the rack gear tooth part in the radial direction, and a support surface supporting the shaft.
