PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a capping operating mechanism capable of moving a cap by a simple constitution, and to provide a maintenance unit equipped with the capping operating mechanism and a liquid jetting apparatus. SOLUTION: A printer including a recording head for jetting ink from a nozzle opening, and a cap member 27 formed so as to be able to come into contact with the recording head under a condition that the nozzle opening is surrounded, is equipped with the capping operating mechanism. The capping operating mechanism includes a coil spring 40 which energizes the cap member 27 so as to move in a first direction from a non-contact position separated from the recording head toward a contact position being a position coming into contact with the recording head, and a moving member 34 which presses the cap member 27 so as to move in a second direction from the contact position toward a non-contact position against the energizing force of the coil spring 40 by straightly moving along a direction intersecting the first direction based on a driving force transmitted from a driving motor 29 and interfering to the cap member 27 in the midway of the straight movement.
