The height and width of a GUI component are previously defined using a reference height and a reference width. The height of characters inserted into the GUI component is also previously defined using a reference height. When the GUI component is displayed on a display section, the reference height and the reference width of a reference font size are determined to values corresponding to the resolution of the display section. For example, if a panel having a resolution of 1024x768 is used as the display section, the reference height is determined to 25, and the reference width to 19. If a panel having a resolution of 640x480 is used as the display section, the reference height and the reference width are determined to 16.
