Provided are a liquid crystal display panel capable of realizing a high contrast ratio while retaining a holding capacity, and a liquid crystal display device using the display panel. The liquid crystal display panel has a structure, in which a liquid crystal layer is clamped between a first substrate and a second substrate. At least one of the first substrate and the second substrate includes a liquid crystal orientation controlling projection. The first substrate includes a scanning signal line, a data signal line, a drain electrode connected electrically with a pixel electrode, a switching element and a holding capacity wiring. This holding capacity wiring includes a main wiring portion, and a branch portion connected with the main wiring portion and disposed in a region overlapping the liquid crystal orientation controlling projection.
