The system has a sensor (1) for the collection of electromagnetic radiation and for the production of image sequences, a memory unit (15) and an analyzer (14). The image sequences display the real world according to specific spatial targets. The sensor for the collection of electromagnetic radiation is arranged and configured in such a manner that the memory unit and the analyzer are executed. A rough estimation of three-dimensional information is possible in the coverage (2) of the sensor. An independent claim is also included for a method for automatic recognition of graffiti in public areas with a monitoring system.
