A method for converting and inputting characters is provided to enable a user to input special characters or frequently used long sentences conveniently and quickly by registering the special characters or the long sentences, and a name representing the special characters or the long sentences, receiving the name instead of the special characters or the long sentences, and converting the name into the special characters or the long sentences. An input unit copies a recently inputted word or character string having a set character range to a clipboard of a system. A searcher searches a special character name registered in a register(110) by loading the character string to be converted from the clipboard. A converter loads the special character to be converted and transfers the loaded special character to a software keyboard oscillator. The software keyboard oscillator inputs the character to a character input window by generating the same software keyboard signal as a hardware keyboard key value of the special character received from the converter.
