<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively judge whether a transmitting video signal is an RGB signal or not. <P>SOLUTION: In the transmitter 2, a judgment signal producing unit 20 amplifies a horizontal synchronous signal HD to produce a judgment signal JS. A first signal overlapping unit 21A produces a signal by overlapping the judgment signal JS on an R signal. Then, the signal thus produced is transmitted to a receiver 3 via a first signal line 4A and then the signal transmitted is binarized in a video signal discriminating unit 30 to be judged whether the judgment signal JS is present or absent therein. When the judgment signal JS has been found, the signal transmitted to the receiver 3 is proved to be the RGB signal and then each color signal, a vertical synchronous signal VD and a horizontal synchronous signal HD are separated in first to third signal separators 31A, 31B and 31C. These signals separated are transmitted to a video display unit to be displayed thereon.
