PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bristle member for a brush, which is excellent in cleaning property and also has durability, and the brush using the bristle member. SOLUTION: In the bristle member for the brush, a tapered part is formed on at least at one end of a bristle composed of a synthetic resin monofilament, a cross sectional shape vertical to the fiber axial direction of the tapered part is a profiled section, and the cross sectional shape of a main body part other than the tapered part is a non-profiled section. In the manufacturing method of the bristle member for the brush, a core-sheath structure conjugate monofilament, which is melt-spun so as to make a core part to be the profiled section using a synthetic resin of a slow chemical dissolution rate and a sheath part to be the non-profiled section using a synthetic resin of a chemical dissolution rate higher than that of the synthetic resin of the core part, is formed into a cut bristle, and the tapered part is formed at least at one end of the cut bristle bundle by chemical treatment.
