<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the practicality of a steering system by devising mounting structure of an airbag device. <P>SOLUTION: The storage portion 146 of a container 140 storing an airbag 142 is supported by a tube provided on a vehicle body by supporting members 148, 150 to be positioned on a driver side of a steering wheel 20. When operation is carried out while exceeding a range wherein the supporting members interfere with an arm 132 supporting a grip 134 of the steering wheel, a mechanism 160 releasing fixing to the tube by the supporting members is provided. In a comparatively small operation range wherein the supporting members does not interfere, the deploying airbag is not deflected regardless of the operation amount of the steering wheel.
