PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head which can sustain good head contact even when using a magnetic tape with a different thickness. SOLUTION: The magnetic head 1 comprises a sliding surface 3 in contact with a running tape 2 and an electromagnetic transducer 4 disposed on the sliding surface 3, first edges 5 formed on both ends of the sliding surface 3 in the direction of the running tape 2, and second edges 6 formed at a position extended from both ends of the sliding surface 3 in the direction of the running tape 2 in contact with the magnetic tape 2.
