PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of winding an optical fiber which enables to finish the winding in an excellent winding condition while preventing the occurrence of winding disorder of the optical fiber in the finishing of the winding. SOLUTION: The method of winding the optical fiber is carried out by traversing a winding position 3a to the rotation axial direction of a bobbin 5 in the winding of the optical fiber 3 on the bobbin 5 and reversing the traverse direction at a prescribed position matched with the width of the drum part 5a of the bobbin 5. The position where the traverse direction is reversed is normally the prescribed position and when the rotation speed of the bobbin 5 is decreased to finish the winding, the position where the traverse direction is reversed is shifted to the front side of the position second from last time in every reverses.
