PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a DC motor in which temporary holding of brushes can be easily released after a rotor is assembled. SOLUTION: Springs 11, 12 for applying force to brushes 5, 6 accommodated in brush holders 211, 212 toward a commutator 4 are provided and tip portions 11b1, 12b1 of the springs are inserted into the brush holders through slits s provided on the side surface of each of the brush holders. Holding grooves 501, 601 for fitting the tips of the springs are provided on the side surface near the rear ends of the brushes 5, 6 and the tips of the springs are fitted in the holding grooves so that the brushes 5, 6 can be temporarily held at positions not contacting the commutator 4. The rear end portions of the temporarily held brushes 5, 6 are pressed onto the commutator 4 side through an opening on the rear end side of the brush holder, so that the tip portions of the springs 11, 12 are taken out from the holding grooves of the brush and engaged with a spring engaging portion provided on the end surface side of the rear end portion of the brushes and a force is applied to the brushes toward the commutator side.
