PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a methylene disulfonate compound, by which the methylene disulfonate compound can easily industrially be produced at a low cost. SOLUTION: This method for producing the methylene disulfonate compound represented by general formula (3) [R<SP>1</SP>is H, a halogen atom, a 1 to 4C alkyl whose one or more hydrogen atoms may be replaced by one or more halogen atoms, an aromatic ring group which may have one or more substituents, or a group represented by general formula (2) (R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are each independently H, or a 1 to 3C alkyl whose one or more hydrogen atoms may be replaced by one or more halogen atoms)] is characterized by reacting a sulfonic acid compound represented by general formula (1) [R<SP>1</SP>is the same group of R<SP>1</SP>in the general formula (3)] with a formaldehyde compound in the presence of a dehydrating agent.
