PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium carrying device and a medium carrying method capable of appropriately intermittently carrying media. SOLUTION: The medium carrying device for carrying media within a carrying route is provided with a first carrying roller provided within the carrying route to carry the media; a second carrying roller provided within the carrying route and separated from the first carrying roller to intermittently carry the media in cooperation with the first carrying roller; a first motor for driving the first carrying roller; a second motor for driving the second carrying roller; first and second gears rotated with their tooth flanks contacting each other and transmitting the drive force of the first motor to the first carrying roller; and a control part for performing control to synchronize and drive the first carrying roller and second carrying roller by supplying a drive electric current to the first motor and second motor and control to stop the first motor while a small electric current smaller than the drive electric current is supplied to the first motor.
