The interferometer has a light source (1) emitting light beam (2,2'), and a mirror (5) reflects light beam towards detector for detecting the refractive index. The light beam unseparated on the entire distance between light source and detector (6) meets on the detector that is formed as optical position detector. The detector detects displacement by a change in the refractive index of the sample gas (3).
