PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure straightness in a cutting surface of a cleaning blade. SOLUTION: A cutting method for the cleaning blade for cleaning the surface of an image carrier is provided for cutting in a set direction a plate-like elastic sheet 11 with elasticity, which is used as material for the cleaning blade in a manufacturing process for the cleaning blade. The cutting method for the cleaning blade is such that the elastic sheet 11 is cut, while tensile force in a direction orthogonal to the cutting direction is applied to the cutting position.
