PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear ion accelerator which can shorten the total length and accelerate larger current ion beams up to high energy. SOLUTION: Electrode lengths of a plurality of cylindrical electrodes 2 arranged on a straight line in acceleration cavity 1 are made proportional to traveling ion speed. At every half period of a prescribed period along the ion traveling direction, the electrode length of the number of electrode less than the number of electrodes belonging to the half period and not exceeding three electrodes are made such that the absolute value of the difference between the electrode length and the length proportional to traveling ion speed is made not less than a value corresponding to phase width of traveling ions.
