PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head in which magnetic field intensity to be applied to an adjacent track can be suppressed and a magnetic recording device mounted with the same, in a patterned perpendicular magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION: In one embodiment of this invention, a sum of width PW of a main magnetic pole 1 of a magnetic head 14 and distance between right and left magnetic substances 33 in the track width direction side and the main magnetic pole 1, so to speak, the sum of side gap length width s_g1_1 and s_g1_2 is, in the magnetic recording medium having a soft magnetic backing layer, made to be not more than the sum of land width w_land being the projection part of the soft magnetic backing layer and groove widths w_groove_1 and w_groove_2 being recessed parts adjacent to the land on its both sides.
