PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition effective for improving both of the initial gripping performance and driving stability of a tire at the same time compared with conventional tires by using the composition as the tread rubber of a tire and to provide a pneumatic tire produced by using the rubber composition as the tread rubber. SOLUTION: The rubber composition is produced by compounding 100 pts.mass of a rubber component with 10-60 pts.mass of at least one kind of resin selected from homopolymer resins and copolymer resins of an aromatic vinyl compound having a softening point of≥140°C and 5-60 pts.mass of at least one kind of resin selected from 9C resins containing indene and having a softening point of≥140°C and≤190°C.
