PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device, which has simple configuration and can exhibit improved color reproducibility, an image display method and a projector. SOLUTION: The image display device is equipped with a plurality of light sources (a red light source 11r, a green light source 11g and a blue light source 11b) and a reflection type light modulation device 13 modulating the light emitted from the light sources, and sequentially displays a plurality of fields in different colors obtained by modulating the light from the light sources through the reflection type light modulation device 13. The image display is further equipped with a light source control section (a display device controller 21, a PWM control circuit 22, and AND circuits 23r, 23g, 23b) controlling the light source by pulse width modulation in a 1/n period (wherein n is a natural number) of the minimum response time of the reflection type light modulation device 13.
