PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic dictionary device and method, allowing easy retrieval of a word included in time-series text information accompanying content. SOLUTION: The time-series text information accompanying the content output by a content output part 212 is input in a text information input part 202, a word is extracted in a word extraction part 205, and the retrieval word is accumulated in a retrieval word accumulation part 206. The word desired to be retrieved by a user is selected from the accumulated words by an input part 209, and a retrieval result or the like is displayed on a display part 211. Because a reproducing/recording state of the flowing content is controlled in a content output/recording control part 214, the user can easily retrieve the word included in the time-series text information in the middle of viewing the content.
