PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive method for a plasma display device that can achieve high light emission efficiency, while securing high image display quality by making stable initialization discharge generated. SOLUTION: In the first half of an initialization period, a scan electrode Scn is applied with a plus voltage above a discharge start voltage with a data electrode Dat. In the second half of the initialization period following it, however, the scan electrode Scn is applied with a fall ramped waveform voltage (a portion falling from a voltage Vi3 to a voltage Vi4) which drops at a voltage variation rate of 1.0 to 10.0 [V/μsec.], and substantially simultaneously therewith, a sustain electrode Sus is applied with a fall ramped waveform voltage (a portion dropping from a voltage Vi1 to a voltage Vi4) which falls at a voltage variation rate of 1.0 to 10.0 [V/μsec.].
